Models for management of capelin

The management options are calculated using 6 month simulation from the measurement by October 1 to spawning by April 1. This is done with the Excel-based spreadsheet CapTool. The parameters that govern the simulations are estimated by the model Bifrost.

Technological platform for Bifrost

Bifrost is written in Mathematica. However, work is ongoing to port the model to an AD Model Builder platform, supported by R programs for data interface. This will make the platform more convenient for future inernational co-operation, and will considerable speed during estimation and simulation will be gained.

A benchmark meeting is planned in early 2015. Our goal is to have the historic assessment in place on the ADMB/R platform in place by then. However, it may not be realistic to also make the simulations for evaluating harvest rules using the new platform, so the Mathematica platform will be maintaned for this purpose until the full Bifrost is implemented on the new platform.
